Veteran education technology executive, professor, and advocate for efficacy research appointed to ASCD Board of Directors
WASHINGTON, DC—August 30, 2017—Jefferson Education Accelerator (JEA) CEO Bart Epstein has been appointed to the ASCD Board of Directors, joining industry leaders and educators including Ben Shuldiner, ASCD President and Distinguished Lecturer at Hunter College – City University of New York, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Deb Delisle who now serves as executive director and CEO of the nearly 75-year-old organization.
“Bart has distinguished himself as a national leader committed to bringing multiple stakeholders together to address our most pressing education challenges,” said Shuldiner. “His entrepreneurial spirit and deep familiarity with the intersection of educational technology and practice will play a significant role in advancing ASCD’s mission to ensure every child is engaged, supported, and challenged in the classroom. We are thrilled to welcome Bart to the ASCD Board of Directors.”
ASCD, a nonprofit, nonpartisan global community of 115,000 superintendents, principals, teachers, and advocates, announced Epstein’s appointment on August 23, 2017. The ASCD Board of Directors is composed of members elected by the general membership who serve a four-year term and appointed members who may serve up to four years.
“It is a tremendous honor to be selected to join the ASCD Board of Directors,” said Epstein. “ASCD has long been committed to ensuring every educator has the best support and tools possible in the classroom, and I look forward to joining a community that is working to shape an educational future informed by an understanding of how technology affects outcomes—and efficacy research can enable teachers, leaders, and policymakers to make better investments and decisions.”
Epstein’s appointment to the Board is effective immediately. To learn more about ASCD governance, programs, products, and services, visit www.ascd.org.
About Jefferson Education Accelerator
The Jefferson Education Accelerator (JEA), a venture launched by the University of Virginia Curry School of Education, brings together diverse education stakeholders who do not often collaborate to address the challenges and opportunities associated with efficacy research in educational technology. Combining the perspectives of education entrepreneurs, investors, philanthropists, researchers, and educators, JEA seeks to ensure that the products and technology entering our nation’s classrooms do so on the basis of their merit, not marketing.
